Bahir Dar

We went to Bahir Dar and visited with Maria Lopez, another Teachers for Africa volunteer. She is a PhD candidate from Northern California. We went to dinner with her and she went with us to the falls on the White Nile, the source of the White Nile River.

We had a great dinner at this fine restaurant, the name of which escapes me. We ate there twice. Maria is cute, huh?
That's me (not Indiana Jones) in front of the falls. Sun was behind me, so I can see how you might be confused.
Me and a friendly person in front of the falls.
Fantastic! We were about 500 meters away and could still feel the spray.

Maria and Sallie. Lovely chapeaus, no?
Celia at the falls
Kids at the falls.
This is the Portuguese bridge, built in the 16th century by the Portuguese who were interested in colonizing at that time, with little success. We crossed this bridge to get to the falls. They are building a huge hydroelectric project upstream from this, so it might be dry in the future. The water in the gorge below is supposedly 37 Meters deep.
Sallie from another location.

That's me and Ferguson III. He was 17-year-old named Getataw Kassa and he wanted me to send him a tee-shirt. If I can only find one that will ship for less than the cost of the shirt.

A little village on the road out to the Falls. Notice the cooking smoke exiting the roof. No chimney.
