First group shot at ITESM, or Monterrey Tech. The mural is on the wall above the door entering the rectory, which was the first library.
We got up and went to Monterrey Tec and this is the group standing in front of the criss-cross buildings that are called "El Tec" here in Monterrey. The buildings now contain administrative offices for the tec and other services.
This is the credo of the founder of the Tec. Basically, it says that gold is of no worth; that the true value of a man's life is his contribution to his people and to others. Good words to live by.
We took a walking tour around the beautiful campus and this is a picture of a peacock on the porch of the conference center. Ruben is taking a picture of the peacock who seemed to know that he was being photographed and he preened and turned around several times to show us his backside. Nathan is checking him out, along with Luis.
We were shown around the campus by Eloy Garza, who works in the International Programs Office. He told us all about the history of the Tec and how it has grown and developed over the years.
Here, we are looking at the bell tower. Obvious pose on the part of Joe, Juan and Ruben. I was very sincere in my manner.
More animals. These are fallow deer and they had a fenced area to roam in. Someone said that this was like a zoo. Dr. Ortiz said that if you wanted to see a zoo on a college campus, you should come to his class.
Jessica Alcala is shown lining up a shot of one of the many modern buildings on the campus.
This is a group walking in front of the International Programs building, which is a recent addition to the campus. Notice the flags of the nations of students who study here.
This shot was taken in front of the Virtual University building at the conclusion of our visit.
After our quick trip we went to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
The guys enjoyed reading up on the superstars of Mexican professional baseball. Pictured here are Juan Rodriguez and Miguel Zambada .
There's a wall covered with plaques showing those members inducted into the Hall of Fame. Pictured are Luis Ortiz, Mayra Garcia, Jerry Romero, Sandra Garcia and Dr. Tee.
They have a batting cage and a bunch of the guys, and some of the girls, lined up for a turn at bat. Here's Ruben striking out.
The bleachers were packed with spectators for the batting cage.
The Hall of Fame is located on the grounds of the Cuauhtemoc-Montezuma brewery.
They wouldn't let us take any photos on the tour inside the brewery, but they did let us take a photo of the group wearing their visitor vests.
After our hour and a half visit to the brewery we were able to get a free sample glass. Here's the beer garden where we sat and rested.
We then went to eat and on to the Museum of the 400 Years. Notice the weird pine tree. It's a cell phone tower made to look like a tree. Entry to the museum was free, but they wouldn't let us take any photos. It's really a fine museum of the history of Mexico from pre-Columbian times up until today. For some reason, they prohibit cameras, even without flash. Many museums and businesses have the same policy.
A nice view of the Palacio de Gobernal. Located at the north end of the Macroplaza, which is the cities magnificent central park and leisure area.
This is a view of the Neptune fountain in the heart of the Macroplaza taken from the hotel.
A view of the cathedral, which was across the plaza from our hotel. The sun was setting to the west and the light was excellent for a picture postcard shot.
Drtee, Jerry, Ethan, Luis, Georgia, Sandra and Mayra went to eat at El Rey de Cabrito, the restaurant behind them, that only serves cabrito, or roast goat. Super supper.
The restaurant is decorated in taxidermy. Two lions adorn the far end of the building. PETA wouldn't like this place! Animals were certainly injured in the production of this decor.
Featured travelers for today are Mary and Jerry Romero from NMHU. Mary teaches accounting there and is taking the course for credit. Jerry is a building contractor and came along for the ride.
