A day tour to Tequila. We got up and caught the bus at 9:30 and headed west to the little town of Tequila that is noted for the production of a certain fiery drink that Mexico is noted for.
We went back to town and did some shopping. Lots of fun today.
We planned to visit the Sauza Distillery, but arrived too late for the scheduled tour and went to the Viuda de Romero distillery instead. It was great. They welcomed us in and gave us a up close and personal tour and let us have free samples after the tour was completed.
This is a worker chopping the agave balls in half preparatory to putting them into the roasting ovens where they are roasted for two hours.
Here we are in the aging room (bodega de reposado) and our hostess is showing us how the product is aged for up to two years in charred 150 liter barrels.
The bus drivers followed along to keep us out of trouble. Fidel and Jose Luis (in tie) didn't drink anything. They were our designated drivers.
Here's the bottling line wehre they were bottling liters of Viuda Romero Oro Reposado. Amazingly, they allowed us to pass down through the line and even got some samples from the girls on the line.
Eric is shown sampling the 180 proof freshly distilled tequila from the traditional goat's horn. Burns all the way down.
Here are the girls picking out some samples to take home to their parents or other people.
After leaving the Viuda Romero distillery we went over to the Sauza mansion in order to buy some tee shirts and shot glasses. This is the garden just as you pass through the gate.
We pause for another group shot. A few of the folks were wandering around elsewhere when we took this shot.
The front porch of the Sauza mansion. This is where samples of tequila and Squirt.
A group of high school kids from Puebla were enjoying their tequila punch and Drtee hastles them about their age.
Rey's eyes were playing tricks on him as he takes a picture of himself in a big mirror.
