Up and at 'em early this morning. We left the hotel at 8:30 to get to the Museum of the Desert in Saltillo by 10:00. We arrived almost exactly at 10:00 and visited the museum from about 10:20 until 12:20. Then, we went into Saltillo and had lunch and then on to Zacatecas, which was about five and a half hour drive through mostly desert.

We managed to get everyone in on the student rate, including me. The drivers Uri and Ismael were allowed in free, much to their surprise. That's Uri 4th from the end on the back row and Ismael on the very end.

Cristine, Reyna, Maricela and Nancy are shown in front of a large globe with all of the deserts shown in various shades of tan. This is a fantastic museum and the exhibits are all first class. It was opened in 1999 with much of the money coming from Chrysler, who has several manufacturing plants in the area. The schools of the region must love it and there were lots of kids visiting while we were there.

They have a fine paleontology display with several life sized models of different dinosaurs and lots of fossils. They weren't tired, just sitting down to let the dinosaur be shown.

Tyrannosaurus Rex model is really big!

One of the buildings was devoted to the people of the area prior to the arrival of the Europeans. A fine photo opportunity for Reyna, Maricela, Selina, Cristine, Tony and Amy. I didn't get the name of the one behind Reyna.

One building was devoted to the animals of the region. This fine specimen of a puma seems to be willing to let Adan pet him on the forehead.

A white-tailed deer appears to be in flight with the aid of a little digital retouching with Photoshop.

Tony strikes a surprised pose in the kid's posing area.

That's more like it.

The prairie dog display showed a bunch of very busy little rats digging in the dirt.

Still didn't get everyone into the group shot. Adan was inside and I didn't notice he was missing.

We went into town and grabbed lunch at Martin's Restaurant before making the 6 hour drive down to Zacatecas.

We came up on a wreck scene 100 Km north of Zacatecas. I just happened to have the camera ready and captured this shot. Apparently the pickup was hit by a tractor and trailer rig which was off to the right jack knifed but upright. The white thing in the road was the body of the driver. I tried to get another shot, but we didn't get to stop and we passed by before I could get it.

That big ball behind the group is a monument representing the Tropic of Cancer. The bus driver said he had never heard of it, but I saw it in time for us to get this photo opportunity. Another hour or so into Zacatecas.
