This is the town of Nazaré, fishing village and beach town.  Those things on the beach are tents which beach visitors can rent for changing clothes and sleeping in.  This picture was taken from high above the city in the town of Sitio, which you reach by taking a funicular train.

As you can see, the weather was messy when we got there.  Typical of the Atlantic coast.  It rained and was gloomy all the time we were there, which was for two nights.

Sallie in some of the traditional fishing boats they use here.  I think these were just there for the tourists.  They used to pull them up onto the beach using oxen.  Now, the boats are powered and they have a nice safe harbor with a jetty to protect it.

That's a view of the harbor taken from up at Sitio.

The colorful beach tents closer up.

The view from the funicular train station up high.  Notice the place in the middle where the down car passes the up car.  Gravity makes the work easier.

The town of Sitio which appears to be primarily a tourist trap.

That's the tourist market ove there.

Looking down to the surf from Sitio.

Focus real close and you might see the Statue of Liberty, which is about 3,500 miles that way.  This is the westernmost tip of Portugal.

This little guy was making model boats to sell to the tourists.  I was a tourist, so I bought one and it's in my office.

We had to eat and this Pizza place was just to our liking.
