Sallie and I caught a bus and went to Segovia on our own. Segovia is located about 70 miles northwest of Madrid, but we took a cross country bus that took us through some little farming villages that were a really interesting experience. The University arranged trips to various cities and we participated in them when there was room. This turned out to be a delightful day and a beautiful place. |

This is the Alcázar, which was the castle of the lord of the city. It burned in the latter half of the 19th century and was rebuilt. It is now used primarily as a tourist attraction. It houses many pieces of armor and other ancient pieces. There was a museum of the artillery established here and it has a wonderful collection on cannon making and shows all of the various uniforms of the artillerymen. Looks very Disneyesque, huh? |

What a beautiful sight! I managed to get another tourist to take this picture of me. |

The cathedral. They were having a presentation called "The Ages of Man" inside. Really a fantastic show with lots of religious art. No pictures allowed, but trust me. It was great! |
Sallie kept looking for a man for her friends back here at home, but these were just empty suits. Suits of steel, but still suits. |
Even the horse wore armor. |
Another great view looking down into the valley and up across the hill. |

Sallie with the cathedral in the background. |

The Throne Room, where the King hung out when he was in town. |
The Virgen. Looks a bit familiar, don't ya think? Notice the horns at her feet. This looks exactly like the Virgen de Guadalupe, which "miraculously" appeared in Mexico. Hmmmm? |
This is the Roman aqueduct which is over 1,000 years old. There's about 900 meters of it left and it would still flow water and there's no mortar used in its construction! |
A view from the other side. Fantastic! |
